About The Ski Club

Vail.5In 1935, a group of Sacramento families with an interest in skiing came together to form a ski club, holding their first meeting in the Clunie Clubhouse in McKinley Park. In January, 1937, members chose the name “Kandahar,” after a well-known British ski club, and fashioned the “Skiing K” logo, adopting the red and blue colors from the outfits worn by the 1936 Norwegian Olympic ski team. The first annual banquet was held at the Sutter Club in May, 1938. The next year, the club incorporated and adopted its first bylaws. Over the ensuing years, the club’s members have included many persons active in the civic and social affairs of the city and many inter-generational families.

Today, the Kandahar Ski Club has members of all ages from throughout the Sacramento area. Bound by their love of skiing and winter sports, club members participate in ski trips (both local and out-of- state) and social gatherings.

Club Events and Trips

Kandahar Ski Club plans several ski and social events each year. Typically, these include the following:

Summer Party – a chance to connect with your ski friends when the Sierra snow is sadly lacking.

Fall Kick-off Party – gear up for ski season with a social gathering.

Holiday Party – celebrate the holiday season in style.

Past Presidents’ Ski Day/Family Ski Weekend – two days of skiing that includes an opportunity to test your speed against other club members on a Tahoe-area race course.

Out-of-State Trip – a week-long excursion to a resort or ski area outside the state of California, with group accommodations, social opportunities, and some great skiing.

Women’s Overnight – a chance for the ladies to spend a few days together skiing and relaxing.

Men’s Overnight – same as above, but for the gents.

Awards Dinner/Installation of New Officers – in the spirit of that first banquet in May 1938, this event wraps up the ski season and sets the scene for the next year.

Our club is run by our Board Of Directors, with participation and input from all members.
